Acrylic and stitching on canvas, mounted on panel
78 x 48 in
A ribbon can serve as a marker of mourning, remembrance and solidarity. Bart associates the intentional wearing of a strip of cloth - a ribbon - with loss.
In creating ICE Out: For the Disappeared, Bart built up layers of painted canvas strips, then stitched and assembled them into a single surface. The work was made in memory of those killed or "disappeared" amid the violence associated with ICE officers in Minneapolis during the winter of 2026.
